Field Service Engineer (Utility BESS)

Responsibilities

  • Execute pre-commissioningcold commissioning and hot commissioning of utility scale BESS projects
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on installed energy storage projects
  • Validate electrical installationssystem configuration and performance
  • Troubleshoot faults across DC systems, PCS/Inverters, MV equipment, SCADA and auxiliaries
  • Supervise subcontractors and ensure site works meet safetyquality and project requirements
  • Complete commissioning recordsservice reportsfault reports and handover documentation
  • Support client trainingsite handover, warranty investigations and technical reporting
  • Support regional deliverycommissioning and O&M activitiesincluding travel to project sites as required.

Requirements

  • Electrical, electrotechnical, or equivalent technical qualification, with proven experience in electrical installation, commissioning, maintenance, or fault finding 
  • Proven experience working on utility-scale electrical systems, preferably including BESS, PCS/inverters, DC battery systems, MV/LV switchgear, transformers, SCADA, BMS or EMS systems 
  • PES/PAV and PEI training/qualificationrequired
  • Competence to work under CEI 11-27 / CEI EN 50110 procedures for electrical work, including live LV work, work near live parts and work in the vicinity of HV/MV systems 
  • Practical experience using correctly rated electrical test equipment, diagnostic tools
  • Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, interlock logic, commissioning procedures and OEM technical manuals 
  • Experience with installation, commissioning, energisation, maintenance and fault finding across DC systems, PCS/inverters, MV interfaces and SCADA systems 
  • Familiarity with BMS, EMS, SCADA, PLCs, communication networks, HVAC, fire detection/suppression interfaces and auxiliary systems 
  • Ability to work under permit-to-work, lockout/tagout, switching, isolation, RAMS and site safety procedures 
  • Completion of mandatory workplace health and safety training under Italian safety requirements before site deployment 
  • Ability to complete commissioning records, test reports, service reports, fault reports, riskassessmentsand handover documentation accurately 
  • Valid Category B driving licence 
  • Willingness to travel across Italy and internationally as required
Preferred / additional 
  • Previousutility-scale BESS installation,commissioningor maintenance experience 
  • Experience with OEM-supplied integrated systems covering DC batteries, PCS, MV equipment and SCADA 
  • Medium-voltage switching experience on 11 kV–33 kV systems 
  • Formal MV switching authorisation under client, DNO/DSOor site rules 
  • Experience on substations, renewable-energy plants, grid-connected storageprojectsor industrial power systems 
  • Knowledge of CEI 0-16 for MV/HV grid-connected plants in Italy 
  • Experience with remote diagnostics, alarm analysis, firmware updates, datalogsand root-cause analysis 
  • Availability for call-out, outage support,overtimeor occasional weekend work
Candidates must hold PES/PAV and PEI training/qualification and must be capable of being formally authorised by the employer to work on or near live/stored-energy electrical systems up to 1,500 VDC and 1,000 VAC in accordance with CEI 11-27 / CEI EN 50110 and Italian safety requirements.
